Roger Olson - Arminian Order of Salvation

Roger Olson may be the most able articulator and defender of the Arminian viewpoint out there.   I thought this was well done.

Here's the heart of how salvation works logically (not chronologically) from an Arminian perspective.

1) God’s electing grace in Christ of all who will believe in him;
2) Christ’s atoning, reconciling death for all sinners;
3) Prevenient grace given by God to sinners through the Word (calling, convicting, illuminating, enabling);
4) Conversion (repentance and faith) enabled by assisting, prevenient grace;
5) Regeneration, justification, adoption, union with Christ, indwelling of the Holy Spirit;
6) Sanctification;
7) Glorification.

There is a balance here.  A balance between Biblical statements about God's sovereignty and human free will.   A balance between our fallen nature and our status as in the image of God.

Olson also notes this is smack in the middle between Catholic and Reformed views.

I think this sort of balance is the best accounting of all the Biblical information.   Bravo to Roger Olson for formulating this so succinctly.
